While many insurance loss contractors from the East Coast to the West Coast and everywhere in between claim that they will be the swiftest and fastest to arrive at the disaster site, speed of arrival alone is no test of a contractor's abilities.

All too many times, Disaster Response is played out between contractors as to how many people, or how many trucks of equipment can be mobilized in a short period of time. Though speed is important, speed alone 'is not' Disaster Response.

However, Disaster Response 'is' the ability to listen, question, and then assess the loss site situation. Disaster Response is having the experience and knowledge to take the necessary time to set the right response in motion.   It is understanding the insured's immediate needs versus the insurance carriers' responsibilities, without pushing the process unfairly one way or the other, just for the sake of speed.

Quite simply, Disaster Response has sadly become a bragging rights contest among contractors rather than a service provided by contractors to aid two parties in beginning an equitable settlement process. We at Texas General strive hard to keep a right perspective on this issue.
